The pandemic has totally ruined our initial plans for 2020. With the concert on May 2 cancelled we have tried singing on Zoom, working on the rarely performed, Dame Ethyl Smyth Mass. We hope to return to live singing as soon as we are allowed, but this will be in the Covid-safe venue of Hexham Trinity Methodist Church and all ‘normal’ social distancing rules will apply!

Hexham Orpheus Choir, directed by Mark Edwards, performs three major concerts each year. In addition, the choir participates in a variety of musical events, such as carol concerts and charity fundraising events, and has appeared over the years at various venues including Hexham Abbey, the Queen Elizabeth High school and churches throughout the region. The Choir is also available for private functions.

As a non-auditioned choir, the Orpheus provides a platform for people of differing musical backgrounds to come together and perform a wide variety of choral music, from renaissance to contemporary. New members are always made very welcome, and are encouraged to participate in the choir’s active social calendar.Rehearsals take place at Trinity Methodist Church (Beaumont Street, Hexham NE46 3LS) on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. (generally in school term-time only). The annual membership fee is £90.
